The discovery recount of four precincts in Massac County on the sales tax referendum has had no change on the outcome.

Massac County Clerk Juanita Wedeking-Newberry released information Monday after the recount, saying that totals matched what was on the November 8 ballot in the East Brooklyn, Grant, Jefferson and Adkins precincts.

On election day, those voting no held a one-vote margin, and after mail-in absentee ballots were counted on November 22, the difference was two votes.

Money from the proposed 1 percent sales tax increase would have been used to renovate the courthouse, which is more than 70 years old and in such disrepair that some county employees and services have been moved elsewhere.
