The leader of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is threatening legal action and condemning an anonymous YouTube video  that calls for the lynching and beating of black students.

Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell also asked students in an email to not distribute the YouTube video, in which a masked speaker attributes the message to the campus' Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. The fraternity has denied involvement.

The video's release follows a black student's complaint at a recent Carbondale campus residence hall forum. The student said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's student supporters used a racial slur and said black students should "go back to Africa.''

The school is investigating that incident, which prompted another open letter from Colwell.
