SIU President Randy Dunn tells the Southern Illinoisan the school will "be doing lots of different budgets as exercises throughout the course of this spring." He adds, "where's it's going to come down at the end, it's anybody's guess."
Dunn says if there are cuts, the school's goal will be to keep campuses operating without drastic disruptions. The newspaper reports the school is drafting budgets that consider funding cuts ranging from 5 to 20 percent.
Dunn also says he would prefer to use reserves or cash pools instead of making large-cuts in individual programs this spring.
Lawmakers are grappling with whether to allow a rollback of the state's temporary income tax.
