State Sen. Bill Haine says he'll push for the ouster of the entire Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees after an ex-board chairman tried to get reappointed as leader.

Haine says he's upset after a trustee and ally of Gov. Pat Quinn tried to get the board to elect officers on Wednesday - even though the panel is three members short and lawmakers and the governor are negotiating over appointments.

The vote was thwarted when two trustees walked out rather than allow fellow member Roger Herrin to be appointed as chairman. Herrin was chairman until last March, when other board members voted him out.

Quinn refused to reappoint the three Metro East board members who had voted against Herrin. The Senate refused to confirm the three replacements Quinn proposed.
