A winter storm that moved across southern Illinois has brought as much as 6 to 12 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service on Thursday morning said the largest areas, including Carbondale, Murphysboro and Herrin received between 4 and 6 inches of snow. Further to the east, Harrisburg recorded seven inches.  Along the Ohio River, Brookport and Metropolis totaled more than 11 inches.

Illinois Department of Transportation maps showed roadways in the region were either covered with snow and ice or had patches of snow and ice. The Illinois Secretary of State has closed ten offices due to bad weather and dangerous roads. Those included Anna, Benton, Cairo, Carbondale, Carmi, Harrisburg, Marion, McLeansboro, Metropolis and Vienna.

They are expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.
