State Police Announce Special Patrols in March
By WestKyStar Staff
ULLIN, IL - Illinois State Police District 22 Commander, Captain Thomas Stehley announced several special patrols during the month of March.

Troopers will conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) in Alexander, Union, and Massac Counties, focusing on taffic violations and compliance with seat belt and child restraint laws. Illinois law requires all vehicle passengers (front and back) to be buckled up.

State Police will also be conducting saturated patrols in Union County to prevent and detect alcohol or drug impairment on the roads, and enforcing those laws if necessary. There will also be a roadside safety check in the county sometime during the month. Alcohol and drug impairment remain significant factors in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.

These projects are funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
