The short-lived twister had estimated winds of 65 miles per hour, giving it a rating of EF0. Its path on the ground was about 100 yards long and ten yards wide. One residence near North Avenue south of Round Knob had shingle damage and a cedar tree was snapped. Limbs from several other trees were also broken.
The tornado was estimated by radar to have occurred about 1:38 pm.
The strong thunderstorm line spawned one other tornado in southern Illinois, two in western Kentucky, and a fifth in Indiana.
At about 12:18 pm, another 65-mph twister touched down for about a half mile inside the city limits of DuQuoin, IL. Numerous homes and businesses had siding and shingle damage, a dozen mobile homes were damaged and one was knocked off its foundation.
At 2:30 pm, an EF1 tornado packing 90-mph winds traveled 2.5 miles through Spencer County, IN. A garage was blown down, a power pole snapped and a tractor trailer was blown over along the path, which was 300 yards wide in places.
At 3:02 pm, another EF1 touched down 2 miles southwest of Bremen, KY in Muhlenberg County. A barn was destroyed, and many other structures received damage.
The final twister of the day touched down about 3:38 pm near Elkton, KY in Todd County. A grain bin was destroyed, and four homes received substantial roof damage along the 3/4-mile path of the 85-mph tornado, rated at EF0.
