JONESBORO, IL - A southern Illinois woman has been ordered jailed on $500,000 bond after being charged with first-degree murder in the suffocation of her 11-month-old daughter.
During a brief court appearance Friday in Union County, 39-year-old Stacey Tiffin of Anna was assigned to be represented by a public defender.
The criminal complaint alleges that Tiffin placed her hand over the mouth and nose of Cassandra Tiffin on Sept. 16, knowingly causing the baby's death.
Stacey Tiffin was arrested Thursday after an investigation by Illinois State Police and the sheriff's and coroner's offices of Union County.
Stacey Tiffin's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 30.
