The department began an investigation of the thefts from Massac Memorial Gardens after Holt’s Recycling called to report that vases were brought to their facility. On Wednesday, investigators arrested 31-year-old Melanie Robbins of Metropolis. She was charged with 3 counts of theft and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center, pending bond.
The vases cost $278 when purchased, but when they are sold for scrap, thieves receive $13.45.
Holt’s Recycling held onto the vases and turned them over to the Massac County Sheriff’s Department.
