Woman Indicted for $500,000 in Federal Fraud
BENTON, IL - A southern Illinois woman is accused of bilking about $500,000 in Social Security and veterans benefits from would-be recipients.
A federal grand jury in Benton has indicted 51-year-old Terri DeNeal of Harrisburg for mail fraud.
Authorities allege that from January 2005 through May 2011, DeNeal carried out a scheme to defraud the federal government while serving as a representative for federal aid recipients unable because of health reasons to handle their own finances.
The felony charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Online court records don't show whether DeNeal has an attorney. She does not have a listed home telephone number.
