As temperatures soared to 70 degrees or more yesterday, we are reminded by the National Weather Service that just a few pages back on the calendar, things were a lot different.

Four years ago today, we were on the receiving end of a major winter storm. In 2013, during a two-day winter weather assault, more than a quarter inch of ice and freezing rain coated the Missouri Bootheel and the KY/TN border counties. Further north, 2-4 inches of sleet and snow blanketed western Kentucky, and 4 inches to more than a foot of snow was dumped on southern Illinois.

Snow drifts two feet high blew across roadways north of Vienna and Harrisburg.

As for this year, there is a chance to see some snow in our area this Friday and Saturday, but warm ground temperatures will make it difficult for any accumulation.
