Two Marshall County 911 dispatchers used new technology to save a life recently.
On July 21, dispatchers Maranda Hanson and Philip Madison received three hang-up calls from the same number. After attempting to call back the number, no one answered.
Hanson and Madison knewing this could still be an emergency, so they utilized other resources in an attempt to make contact with the caller.
Texty is a tool that allows Marshall County dispatchers to send and receive text messages to those that may be in emergency situations yet unable to place a call. Through Texty the dispatchers learned that the caller was having a medical emergency in a remote area of LBL, but didn't have good enough reception on their cell phones for a call.
Hanson and Madison gathered as much information as possible about the callers location and condition. Through Texty they were able to remain in contact with the caller, and provided emergency medical instructions until help arrived.
