An Advance Warning Flasher system is being installed this week at the intersection of U.S. Highway 641 and Kentucky Highway 402 in Southern Marshall County.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the AWF system provides drivers with notification that the traffic signal they are approaching is preparing to change from a green light to a red light. This allows drivers to begin slowing before they would see the signal change, which means the stopping distance and time increase.

The signal is being installed in response to complaints about drivers running the red light on Highway 641 just west of the Hardin Community, where an average of 11,400 vehicles travel each day.

Drivers should watch for crews and their equipment working in and around the intersection to install signage and electrical connections required for the system.

The flasher system should be fully installed and operational by the end of the week, weather permitting.
