A possible rape case is under investigation by Murray State University Police.

According to the University's Communications Department, an email was sent out to the entire campus of an alleged rape that occurred over the weekend.  The email was distributed to the campus on Sunday afternoon just after 1 pm.

The email stated the victim was allegedly raped by an acquaintance in a residence hall on the campus of MSU.  The "assault was reported to have occurred in the early morning hours of February 26, 2017."

The email went on to say the alleged assailant is known to the victim.  The campus police department is conducting an investigation and is providing "recovery resources to the student."

MSU also released this statement to West Kentucky Star about the incident:

"The University will not comment on an active investigation. In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, University faculty, staff and students were notified via campus e-mail on Sunday evening after the Murray State Police Department was first notified of the allegation on Sunday afternoon."
