Another Phone Scam Reported in Marshall County
By West Kentucky Star Staff
MARSHALL COUNTY - Marshall County authorities are warning the public about another phone scam.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, the caller identifies himself as being a Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy and proceeds to tell the potential victim that they've missed a court date, or are not in compliance with the sex offender registry.

The caller instructs the victim to purchase a prepaid credit card. He then says he can release the warrant if the victim gives him the security code on the card.

The sheriff's office says this is a scam. They say a deputy will never collect payment for a warrant, a fine or a bond.

Anyone who receives a call from someone alleging to be with the sheriff's office, is advised to hang up immediately and call the Marshall County Sheriff's Office at 270-527-3112 to verify if the call is legitimate.
