Barge Strikes US 60 Cumberland River Bridge
By West Kentucky Star Staff
SMITHLAND, KY - Traffic on the US 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland in Livingston County was halted briefly on Monday due to a barge hit.

According to the US Coast Guard, the Motor Vessel Bill Atkinson was heading downstream on the Cumberland River with fifteen barges when it rubbed against a pier on the bridge. The Coast Guard contacted the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to halt traffic and conduct an inspection.

Travel was suspended on the bridge for about 90 minutes until the inspection was completed, which found no damage to the bridge structure.
