The popular Benton Cruise-in events will continue in 2017, but under new leadership.

In a press release, the city of Benton said they met in a special session on Friday, and voted unanimously to take over operation of the event. City leaders say they held negotiations about compensation with the organization that had previously coordinated the events, but those talks failed to reach an agreement. The city said that's when local folks stepped up to save the community event.

On their Facebook page, Benton Main Street said the relationship with the Metal Mafia Car Club had ended, but the city will be working with the Benton Partnership so they will continue to be, "a place for members of our community to come together with a mutual appreciation for good company and special cars."

The city said the events will continue at the same time, date, and location as before. Benton Main Street said the city's court square will be shut down on the last Saturday evening of the month so people can browse the cars and visit with friends.

These dates were listed for cruise-ins during 2017: April 29, May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26, and September 30.
