A representative with Governor Andy Beshear's office has responded to the report that a proposed budget would remove vital funding for the war on Asian carp.

After Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White sounded the alarm on the proposed budget that he said would remove $11 million in funding from the war on Asian carp, WKDZ reports that Beshear's Deputy Communication Director Sebastian Kitchen says White's comments are false.

"The governor fully funded the Department for Fish and Wildlife in the proposed budget – they are not taking any cut. In fact, the governor’s proposed budget includes $14 million more to the department than the current budget."

Kitchen continued, "The governor is committed to combating Asian carp by providing nearly $2 million to fight the invasive species, with another $4 million provided by the federal government. In addition, the department is also receiving $12.5 million from one-time federal funding sources."

Kitchen also said that the department had never requested boat registration funds be used to fight Asian carp, and says this is not the first time White has spread false information about the governor.
