HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - A Knoxville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on the Pennyrile Parkway.
Kentucky State Police responded to the accident in Hopkins County about 8:45 am. They determined that 25-year-old Germain Rojas was northbound when his SUV blew a rear tire and he lost control. The car left the right side of the highway, and Rojas overcorrected. His passengers, 23-year-old Santiago Ocadiz and 34-year-old Salvador Alvarez, both removed their seatbelts and came to the aid of Rojas as the vehicle traveled approximately 200 feet down the road. He overcorrected again, and the SUV left the right side of the highway, struck a guardrail, traveled back into the median, and overturned.
Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene. Rojas and Ocadiz were taken by Hopkins County EMS to Madisonville Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Hopkins County Sheriff's Department helped at the scene.
