Burkeen Hearing Friday in Murder, Burglary Cases
By WestKyStar Staff
BENTON, KY - In a status hearing Friday in Marshall Circuit Court, Judge Dennis Foust combined the murder case against 24-year-old Cory Burkeen of Gilbertsville, and the DUI, assault, and wanton endangerment case against him, into one. The charges come from a traffic crash that turned fatal on Highway 95 in Marshall County late last spring.
The Memorial Day crash seriously injured a passenger in the other vehicle involved, Shane McKenty of Benton. The driver of that vehicle and another passenger, Lake McGregor of Benton and Maggie Adams of Calvert City, received minor injuries. Another passenger in the vehicle, Landon Lovett of Benton, died from her injuries in November.
Burkeen pleaded not guilty on Friday. His next hearing is scheduled for March 4.
In a separate case, Burkeen is charged with a residential burglary in Marshall County that occurred on August 31 of last year. He's pleaded not guilty in that case as well.
