A southern Illinois woman faces DUI and wanton endangerment charges following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Graves County.

According to the Graves County Sheriff's office, the accident happened at about 5pm in the 8400 block of KY 131. Deputies said a car driven by 24-year-old Samantha Walters of Metropolis crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Laureen Blackshear of Mayfield. After colliding with Blackshear, deputies said Walters' car crossed the oncoming lane of traffic and came to rest approximately six feet off the ground in a cluster of trees. Blackshear was not injured in the collision.

Walters was taken to Lourdes Hospital where she was medically cleared and released to the sheriff’s department.

Walters was arrested and transported to the Graves County Jail on two counts of wanton endangerment, failure to wear a seatbelt, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, driving on a DUI suspended license, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol second offense.
