CADIZ - Kentucky State Police are investigating after a child's body was found in a pond near Cadiz Tuesday morning.

KSP says a call was received around 11 am Tuesday from Trigg County Dispatch regarding the discovery of a body in a pond behind a house on Woodland Drive near Cadiz. Trigg County deputies and troopers and detectives from KSP Post 1 responded to the scene.

Their initial investigation shows that at some point during the morning a small child walked away from a residence and was later located by a neighbor in a small pond near the residence.

Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson pronounced the child dead at the scene. He said the death appears to be accidental and no foul play is suspected. The cause of death has not been released.

An examination on the body is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Western Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville.
