The National Weather Service in Paducah said up to four inches of rain fell in spots across southern Illinois as tropical depression Cindy drenched the region on Friday.
Most of the area saw 1-3 inches of rain, sometimes in just a few hours.
Some localized flash flooding was reported. Streets were flooded Friday morning in the southern Illinois towns of Pinckneyville, Benton, Harrisburg and Goreville.
The weather service said that by 5 p.m. Cindy had lost tropical characteristics, but heavy rain potential is moving east across the Ohio Valley and into Pennsylvania. Moderate to heavy rain with some severe weather is moving into the central Appalachians through Friday night before moving off the East Coast on Saturday.
A cold front that pushed Cindy eastward is bringing cooler and drier air to our region for the weekend.
