Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area presents Civil War Comes to The Homeplace, Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 am-3 pm. The program is included with paid admission:  $5 adults, $3 ages 5-12, and free ages 4 and under.

The public will learn what life was like for a yeoman farm family in 1864 living under martial law during the Civil War. Visitors can stroll around the farmstead and see it as it would have appeared after four years of war. Visit a Confederate encampment on the farm and talk to civilian soldiers. Listen to their stories about the war and coping during their service.

Local historian, Susan “Ski” Witzofsky, will present War Between The Rivers at 1 pm in The Homeplace Theater. “This event focuses on the Civil War from the perspective of everyday farm families, and gives visitors a chance to see history come to life,” says Cindy Earls, Lead Homeplace Interpreter. “Visitors can learn how farm families faced the challenges of keeping the family fed and clothed, and the farm operating, often with no men, draft animals, or seeds to plant a cash crop.”
