Police have arrested a suspect in a Monday morning burglary at a local convenience store.

At around 3:43 am Monday, McCracken County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Superway Convenience Store at 3245 Benton Road for a burglar alarm activation. Upon deputies arrival, they discovered the glass on the east side door was shattered and entry had been made.  Deputies said several cartons of cigarettes were taken during the burglary.

McCracken Deputies said a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department contacted them and said he and a Calvert City Police Officer stopped a vehicle driven by Mikel Hutchison, approximately an hour after the Superway burglary.  Police said Hutchison was driving a pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer with a boat. They also advised Hutchison was wearing the exact clothing worn by the suspect in the Superway burglary.

After learning Hutchison had been arrested on charges in Marshall County and was being held in the Marshall County Detention Center, detectives went to the facility to question him.

While at the detention center, detectives said they saw a pair of coveralls and a gray t-shirt Hutchison was wearing at the time of his arrest and determined they were an exact match to the suspect's clothing. Detectives also determined the boat in Hutchison’s possession had been stolen from the Farley area.

Police said they later found the stolen cigarettes, a red bandana, an orange sock cap and a small hatchet inside the truck that Hutchison was driving. Hutchison was arrested on burglary, theft, and criminal mischief charges.
