Update: After a hydraulic fluid spill a few hours ago caused a hazard on a section of US Highway 641 between Murray and Hazel in Calloway County, crews spread gravel in the area and allowed it to soak up the spilled material on both the north and southbound lanes. Afterwards, it was swept away.
Drivers in that area should use caution, since there could still be some isolated slick spots or loose gravel on the road.
Original Story:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department are responding to a report of spilled hydraulic fluid along a section of US 641 between Murray and Hazel in southern Calloway County.
KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd says reports are coming in that hydraulic fluid has created slippery driving conditions between Brandon Bottoms just south of Murray, extending southward to near the Paschall Truck Lines Terminal. This is between about the 4 and 6 mile marker.
Todd said drivers should slow down and use caution in this area. The KYTC Calloway County Maintenance Crew will be spreading stone along this section of US 641 to help provide traction and soak up the fluid.
The crew expects to be working in this area for about the next 2 hours.
