Crews Repairing Sinkhole on KY 902 in Caldwell Co.
By WestKyStar Staff
FREDONIA, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is still working to repair a sinkhole that opened up KY 902 west of Fredonia in Caldwell County.
The sinkhole is west of Fredonia, between Mill Bluff Road and West Dycus Avenue, about a mile east of the Caldwell-Crittenden County Line.
A Caldwell County maintenance crew placed special fabric across the sinkhole Tuesday afternoon and dumped about 160 tons of rip rap into it. The fabric allows water to go through, but holds soil in place. Engineers expected another 40 tons or more of rock to fill the hole Wednesday.
Using a long-reach track hoe, the crew dug down about 35 feet and started backfilling the hole. When it's filled, they will cap the area with soil and gravel.
