Driving conditions are treacherous and officials continue to strongly advise everyone to avoid unnecessary overnight and Thursday morning.
Highway crews have endured near-blizzard conditions during this weather event. Snowfall in some areas is believed to be about 1 inch per hour. Wind is blowing the snow creating some drifting and helping to quickly cover tire tracks of any vehicles that are moving. At some locations visibility has been down to a few hundred yards at times.
Crews have stopped spreading salt due to the low temperatures, and have been concentrating on plowing in an effort to keep roadways passable.
The National Weather Service at Paducah was officially reporting 6.1 inches of snow accumulation at 8:30 pm.
Todd says it will likely be later in the day Thursday before crews can move to "B" and "C" Snow Priority Routes, which are connector and rural secondary highways.
Unnecessary travel is being strongly discouraged.
