Deadly Calloway Wreck Case Will Go To Trial
By WestKyStar Staff
MURRAY, KY - A Tennessee man, facing charges of fatally injuring a woman with a van in Calloway County last October, will stand trial after declining a plea offer on Monday.
James Paul Cook faces charges of murder and DUI related to the October 4 death of 37-year-old Desiree Moore of Puryear, TN.
Police say Cook, a McLemoresville, Tenn., native, was with Moore in a driveway in eastern Calloway County when the two got into an argument. Moore reportedly got out of the van, and Cook is accused of running over her twice.
Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship told the Paducah Sun that Cook appeared in Calloway Circuit Court Monday morning for a status hearing and decided to request a trial date instead of accepting a plea deal.
Judge Dennis Foust will set a trial date for the fall court term in September or October, Blankenship said.
