I-24, US 62 Delays Continue This Weekend
By WestKyStar Staff
EDDYVILLE, KY - Weekend travellers are seeing backups on I-24 and US-62 near Eddyville due to ongoing road work projects.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, due to heavy spring break and Easter Holiday traffic, there were traffic back-ups at each end of the I-24 work zone between the 31 and 38 mile marker in Livingston and Lyon counties on Thursday and Friday afternoon. This created congestion and delays, mainly for westbound traffic slowing and merging to enter the work zone at the 38 mile marker near Eddyville.
Many motorists attempted to detour around the work zone via US 62 where they encountered a back-up at the US-62 Cumberland River Bridge work zone at Lake City. Traffic backed up again at thisat the automated signal for this work zone. The contractor on the bridge has worked until dark the last couple of days in an attempt to finish work on the Blue Bridge by sometime Friday or Saturday.
Once work is completed on the bridge, US 62 will serve as a viable detour around the I-24 work zone. Motorists traveling on US-62 are reminded to use caution due to the additional traffic load between Eddyville and Calvert City.
