Doran received a Congressional Certificate for her appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.
Congressman James Comer said not only was Doran accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy, but she also was accepted to West Point.
“It's very competitive,” Comer said. “Hundreds of the best students in the First Congressional District apply for this, and she stuck out. Her application was special and she checked every box. I think she should be a role model for women moving forward.”
Doran said she's excited because a lot of hard work has gone into it, and she hopes she inspires others to follow in her footsteps.
“I love being an inspiration to people,” Doran said. “Size and gender doesn't matter. I want people to follow in my footsteps. If someone wants to pursue it, they should.”
Doran said she hopes to become a pilot or work on aircraft to enable pilots to do their jobs. She plans to major in aeronautical engineering at the academy, located in Colorado Springs, CO. She leaves June 27.
