The River Discovery Center’s 3rd annual Dragon Boat Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 20 in downtown Paducah.  The races begin at 9 am. with the awards ceremony to be held in the afternoon.  The Dragon Boat Festival involves more than two dozen local teams racing in heats by paddling 40-foot long boats.  Last year, more than 7000 people attended or participated in the festival.

The Broadway entrance to the riverfront will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, Sept. 19 beginning at 4 pm to allow teams to set up tents on the roadway above and below Wilson Stage.  The Kentucky entrance to the riverfront will close at 1 a.m. Saturday blocking accessibility to the public boat ramp.  Both entrances to the riverfront will re-open to the public at approximately 6 pm on Saturday following the awards ceremony. During the festival, Broadway will be closed at 2nd Street. Water Street will be closed between Kentucky and Broadway.

The Dragon Boat Festival is free for spectators.  Proceeds from the team entry fees and sponsorships benefit the educational programs at the River Discovery Center. In 2013, the festival raised more than $90,000.  Click the link below for more information.
