Gas can now be found in the $1.70s in Paducah and Mayfield, and prices are expected to keep falling as we head toward Thanksgiving.

Average retail gasoline prices in Kentucky fell 16 cents in the past week, averaging $1.91 a gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,623 gas outlets in Kentucky. This compares with $2.06 a gallon for the national average.

Paducah had at least one station at $1.78 Monday morning. In Mayfield, prices started at $1.77. In Metropolis, gas was priced at $1.85, and gas could even be found for $1.69 in Clarksville.

GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says these gasoline levels have not been seen since 2009.

"Oil prices seem likely to spend some time under $40 per barrel, also some of the lowest prices witnessed since the Great Recession. Three main factors are leading to the low levels we're seeing- a seasonal decline in gasoline demand, low and falling oil prices and a refinery maintenance season which is quickly wrapping up," DeHaan said.
