Fans Asked to Donate Food at 'Battle of the Birds'

MAYFIELD, KY - In addition to team spirit, Mayfield and Graves County football fans are also being asked to bring a canned food item to the annual “Battle of the Birds” football game Friday night.
Students from both high schools and from Mid-Continent University will be on hand at the Graves County High School stadium gate to collect the food items that will go into the Cardinals and Eagles containers. The food will be donated to the Mayfield-Graves County Needline & Food Pantry. Game time is 7 pm.
The Food Pantry, 424 S. 9th St., is a faith-based non-profit organization that provides emergency food assistance to local needy families.
“We really appreciate the schools, students and fans support for this important food drive to help stock the shelves of the Food Pantry,” said Jackie Herndon, Needline & Food Pantry Director. “We are always needing food because we serve about 350 families per month and those shelves can get depleted pretty quickly.”
