A Hopkinsville father and son drowned Saturday in the waters of Lake Barkley.

The Trigg County Coroner, John Mark Vinson, told WKDZ radio in Cadiz that 52-year-old Michael Bussell and 13-year-old NyDarion Bussell were in a boat near the Devil's Elbow boat ramp when the father went into the water for some reason. Vinson said the son went in, apparently to help, and both of them went under. Neither of them was wearing a flotation device.  It's unknown if they could swim.

Two divers from the U.S. Forest Service found the bodies.  The divers were assisted on the scene by Trigg County Rescue, EMS, and Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Officials told WKDZ this is the first fatal boating accident this year.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife continue to investigate.
