Flood Warnings Continue, Rivers to Crest Friday
By Bill Hughes
PADUCAH, KY; CAIRO, IL - Flood warnings continue for several locations in our area along the Ohio and Mississippi River.

Recent rains and backwater from the flooded Mississippi River have created these conditions. Towns in the upper Mississippi Valley have been battling flood waters all week after a very rainy spring.

Minor flooding conditions are forecast at New Madrid, Brookport and Grand Chain, moderate flooding is forecast at Cairo and Thebes, and major flooding is forecast for Cape Girardeau.

Current river forcasts call for both rivers to crest on Friday.

The Ohio River in Cairo will crest at 47.5 feet (flood stage is 40 feet).

The Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau will crest at 42 feet, 10 feet above flood stage.

Paducah's river level is expected to crest about 4 feet below flood stage.

Those who live in river counties are reminded to never drive vehicles through flooded areas, because the water may be too deep, or the road may have washed away. Never allow children to play in flood waters.
