A former Lyon County teacher who was arrested Sunday on a felony charge appeared in court Tuesday.

According to the Webster County District Court Clerk, 33-year-old Michael McCuiston appeared before Judge Daniel Heady, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He faces a charge of tampering with physical evidence.

McCuiston told the judge he plans to hire a private attorney. The court clerk said Judge Heady set a preliminary hearing on April 30.

McCuiston was arrested Sunday after a complaint was received by the Lyon County Sheriff's Department on Saturday. He quit his job as a teacher and coach over the weekend.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said Monday that McCuiston is suspected of being involved in sexual exploitation related offenses in his previous employment. He asked anyone with information to call the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office or Kentucky State Police.
