The 594th Transportation Company returned to the military post on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line Thanksgiving night to cheers and welcomes from family and friends.
The unit is part of the 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. The Leaf-Chronicle reported the soldiers saw a dramatic change in the scope of their duties as Islamic State activity in the region became increasingly violent. Due to the dramatic turn of events, the unit's mission has been referred to as "A Deployment to Remember."
In addition to transportation and logistical support, the group had more humanitarian duties, supplying 500,000 meals and 300,000 gallons of water to refugees in the area.
