Fundraiser for Wounded Soldier Today
By WestKyStar Staff
KUTTAWA, KY - A benefit bake sale, raffle and Karaoke event will be held Saturday, September 1 for a wounded soldier with family ties to the area.
The event will be held at Vickie's Country Village Flea Market on Highway 62 in Kuttawa, in partnership with The Country Gentlemen's Flea Market.
Army Specialist Orry Lane Bush of Cottage Grove, TN is the grandson of one of the vendors at Vickie's, and he was injured in Afghanistan on May 1 when their team of four was hit by a road side bomb. His injuries included a fracture of the left femur and right arm, along with seven fractured vertebrae. Specialist Bush received medical assistance in the field, before being airlifted to a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. After he was stabilized, he was transferred to the U.S. Military Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, and later to the United States. He has undergone numerous surgeries and treatments.
On the day he and his comrades were injured, President Barrack Obama was in Afghanistan to deliver a speech to the military. In a touching tribute, the president went to Kabul and personally awarded the Purple Heart to Specialist Bush and the other injured soldiers.
Specialist Bush is the grandson of Ann Bush, Barbara and James Lane, all of Cottage Grove, TN. His parents, Ed and Sharee Bush have been by his side since his injury, and have exhausted all of their work leave pay, but still have expenses and costs associated with their effort to support their son's recovery.
Every part of the day's activities, which start at 9:00 am, will benefit Speicalist Bush and his family. There will be a bake sale, raffles, a motorcycle show, gospel singing, and Karaoke, all leading up to an auction and dance, beginning at 7:00 pm.
Any musicians interested in performing at the benefit should call Melody at 270-748-7471. For other information, call Vickie at 270-388-4173.
In case of rain, the event will be held on Saturday, September 8.
