According to Chief Michael Kaler with the Symsonia Fire Department, firefighters responded around 9 pm to a home on Highway 348 East, near the Graves-Marshall county line. Kaler said when firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire in the attic and carport area of the home. He said there was also a vehicle parked in the carport.
Firefighters worked until about 1:30 Wednesday morning to extinguish the flames. The Symsonia Fire Department was assisted by the Clear Springs, Viola and West Marshall fire departments.
Kaler said no one was at home when the fire started and there were no injuries. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation but it may be weather-related.
Kaler said he found the homeowner's Bible inside one of the rooms of the home. He said the room was completely destroyed by the fire but the Bible was sitting on top of some debris, unharmed by the fire, just water soaked. Kaler said he was able to return the Bible to the homeowner.
