Graves County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a mother and her boyfriend with multiple counts of child abuse.

At approximately 2 pm on Thursday, the sheriff’s office received a complaint of possible child abuse at 6 Wallace Ally in Water Valley. When deputies arrived at the home, they located 24-year-old Jesse Green, of Water Valley, and 27-year-old Bridget Ortega, of Water Valley. They also found five children inside the home.

Deputies found bruising and injuries on two of the children, an eight-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. Based on statements from a witness and the victims as well as evidence at the scene and a confession from one of the parties involved, Greene and Ortega were arrested.

Both were lodged in the Graves County Jail. Greene and Ortega were both charged with two counts of criminal abuse in the second degree as well as one count of probation violation for a misdemeanor offense.

The probation violation charges were based on Ortega and Greene having court orders through Graves District Court not to have any contact with each other per a plea deal from prior assault charges.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cabinet for Families and Children who removed a total of five children from the home ranging in ages from 11 years old to three weeks old.

The investigation is continuing.
