Officials have confirmed three cases of Hepatitis A in western Kentucky, and one related fatality.
Purchase District Health Department Regional Epidemioligist Lindsey Cunningham tells West Kentucky Star there have been two confirmed cases of Hepatitis A in Ballard County. She says there is also one confirmed case, and one pending case in McCracken County.
Cunningham says there has been one confirmed death in Ballard County, which was due to complications from other conditions.
Cunningham added that it's important to take easy precautions to try to help stop the spread of the disease. She says the best way to do this is to wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap.
A two-part Hepatitis A vaccine is also available through your local health department.
