A dangerous situation has been created in Hickman due to heavy rain on already saturated ground.

KFVS reports that the rains have caused a landslide near the area of Buchanan and Church Streets. As a result, Mayor Heath Carlton has declared a local state of emergency.

An update meeting on the situation is scheduled for Friday morning, February 22nd.

The landslide has put the Hickman First Methodist Church, and other structures in danger. Church member, David Thomas, said the hole is about 27 feet from the church's Life Enrichment Center.

Fulton County Emergency Management says one unoccupied structure has received damage, and other structrures could be impacted if sliding continues.

Mayor Carlton urges people to stay away from the landslide area, as it is considered unsafe.
