I-24 in Christian County was closed for hours and traffic was backed up into Tennessee after three vehicles crashed, and two of them burned Thursday afternoon.

WKDZ radio reported Thursday that around 1:30 pm at the westbound 89 mile marker in Christian County, a semi which was hauling frozen chickens struck a car which was being towed behind an RV. The car broke loose from the RV and then caught fire, along with the semi.

The RV ran off the road into the median where it was stopped by cable barriers.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said westbound traffic was backed up as far as the Tennessee state line 4 miles away. Eastbound traffic was also backed up about 2 miles.

The semi and the car were both completely destroyed by fire. I-24 remained closed for several hours while the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

WKDZ reported that no one was injured in the accident.
