I-69 Ramp to I-24 Closed, Detour in Place
By WestKYStar Staff
EDDYVILLE, KY - A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has changed traffic flow in a work zone on Interstate 24 westbound at the I-69/Western Kentucky Parkway Interchange at Exit 42 in Lyon County. The work zone changes are to improve safety at the site for workers and the public.
Starting at 8:00 am Friday, the I-69 ramp to westbound lanes of I-24 west were closed. Southbound traffic on I-69 is being detoured, using Exit 4 to travel west on US Highway 62 and join I-24 westbound lanes at exit 40.
This detour will reduce congestion that was created by vehicles merging into single-lane traffic on I-24 at exit 42.
This work zone should be in place for about two months, and is to allow the southbound exit 42 ramp from I-69 to be lengthened and widened, as the Western Kentucky Parkway is upgraded to federal Interstate standards.
All westbound I-24 traffic continues to be moved to the left-hand lane in this area, and has a strictly enforced 55 mile per hour work zone speed limit with double fines and an enhanced police presence.
All other ramps around the I-24 Exit 42 Interchange with I-69/WK Parkway are operating normally.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use appropriate caution in this work zone where equipment and construction personnel are in close proximity to traffic flow.
