Ice Cream Festival Schedule, Scooper Bowl Recap

MURRAY, KY - The approaching storms Friday night held off long enough to satisfy the appetites of hundreds of ice cream lovers on the Murray court square, at the Rotary Scooper Bowl competition during the Murray Ice Cream Festival.
Seven organizations cranked out gallons of homemade ice cream for the crowd to sample and vote for their favorite. Teams and flavors included:
Puryear United Methodist Church - Orange sherbet
Lost But Loved Animal Rescue Mission - Cherry
Sock & Buskin theatre community of Murray State - Buskin Banana and Murray Mud
Eastwood Christian Academy - Cookies and cream
Rotaract Club - Peppermint chocolate chip
Mens Mentoring for Murray State Boys, and the Murray State Womens Center - Peach
Defending champions Kirksey United Methodist Church returned this year with a new flavor, Red White and Blue Cheesecake. Last year, their $1100 in winnings went to the purchase of eleven UnderArmor backpacks for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Teams will find out today the result of fan voting, and how much will be their share of over five thousand dollars in prize money. This year's competition was underwrittten and sponsored by Pepper's Automotive Group.
Come back to the Murray court square today until 5pm for features like The Top Gun Car Show Cruise-In, inflatables for the kids ($10 wristband for unlimited fun all day), racing simulators, Ice Cream Idol (beginning at noon), and the highlight of the weekend, free Purity ice cream from noon til 5pm.
