'Josh's Brigade' Concert Today in Mayfield
By WestKyStar Staff
MAYFIELD, KY - A Mayfield family may get just what they've been hoping for following a weekend of events that are planned to help the family raise money for some needed changes to their home.
John Michael Montgomery will headline a charity concert for the family of Josh Harpole this Saturday starting at 5pm at the Mayfield/Graves County fairgrounds, along with several other local performers, along with an afternoon of fundraising events beginning at 1pm
11-year-old Josh has muscular dystrophy. In the last three years, his condition has deteriorated to the point that he is now confined to a wheelchair. Family friend Kim Lindsey says their home is "...too small for a wheelchair that is so desperately needed. Their home is like a lot of older houses, with narrow hallways, small rooms, you know, just not a lot of room for a wheelchair."
This is why Josh's Brigade has been formed, to assist the family in raising money, so they can begin the process of building a more accessible home on a piece of land that Josh's father already owns.
The weekend's events will begin with a kickoff party at 7 pm Friday, Sept. 14, at Carr's Steakhouse in Mayfield. The night will include a sing-off, with the winner being the one who collects the most tips. The winner will then perform prior to John Michael Montgomery's appearance Saturday at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds.
Saturday's events will not only include Montgomery's concert, but beginning at 1pm there will be kids games, a fireman's water ball, and both silent and live auctions.
Lindsey says Montgomery asked to attend the event and will be performing free of charge.
Advance general admission tickets start at eight dollars, and are on sale in Mayfield at River Valley Ag Credit, Jerry's Glass, and Award Masters. Other tickets and V.I.P. packages are also available by calling (270) 836-2586.
