Trigg Circuit Judge Woody Woodall ruled Friday that the trial will be moved to Livingston County. WKDZ reports that defense attorney Joanne Lynch argued the amount of pre-trial coverage in the case would prevent a fair trial in Trigg County.
Woodall denied a motion by the defense to hold an evidentiary hearing to argue against holding the trial in any of the 56th Circuit counties of Caldwell, Lyon, Livingston or Trigg. Woodall did say that if evidence is presented that merits another change of venue, he would address that at a later date.
Woodall reportedly did not rule on a change of venue request for Ann Plotkin, whose trial is scheduled for February 2017. Champion and Plotkin both face complicity to murder charges in the 2014 deaths of Champion's parents and sister, Lindsey, Joy and Emily Champion.
Ryan Champion faces an additional murder charge for the death of Vito Riservato and a complicity to kidnapping charge.
