A judge has granted a motion request by Gabriel Parker's legal team to delay answering two civil lawsuits against the accused shooter at Marshall County High School.

On Tuesday, Marshall Circuit Court Judge James T. Jameson granted the extensions until the conclusion of the criminal case, including any appeals. Once the criminal case is completed, Parker's legal team must file their responses within 20 days.

Parker's Guardian Ad Litem filed the motions in March, arguing that if the criminal trial against Parker isn't completed first, the overlap of discovery and possible testimony in the civil trial could jeopardize the criminal case, including the possibility that Parker might have to testify against himself in the criminal trial.

Judge Jameson issued a stay on discovery that involves Parker, but said all other discovery in the civil cases may proceed.

The criminal trial is scheduled to begin July 1, 2020, and could last as long as 20 days.
