Kentucky State Police report that the recent winter weather event has led to driving difficulties in the eleven most western counties of Kentucky, as precipitation and temperatures continue to fall.

Between Thursday evening and 4:30 pm Friday, KSP Mayfield Post responded to 23 crashes that involved property damage, and/or injury. Many more calls were received from drivers who needed to be towed out of ditches or medians.

KSP reminds motorists that if injury or damage exceeding $500.00 is incurred, state law requires that the incident be reported to law enforcement.  KSP reports that slippery roads were the contributing factor in 12,034 crashes and 72 fatalities in 2012.

You can report erratic drivers to KSP at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous, and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
